Name a specific answer

A category word feels safe. The game treats it as a miss, or as the cheapest hit.

“Cheese” is not a cheese

The prompt already names the category. Repeating it, or answering with a dish instead of the thing, does not match the list. “Pizza” is not a breakfast answer just because some people eat it in the morning, and “instrument” is not an instrument. Say the object.

Specific does not mean obscure spelling

A name you can spell is worth more than a half-remembered word you cannot finish. The singular tier is still a real thing a cook, a player, or a traveler would recognize. If you only have the first syllable, go back to the spare.
